What is the AFCAT Exam?

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is one of the sought-after examinations conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to select the eligible candidates into Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical) Branch, and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch. The AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The interested candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force can apply online for the AFCAT exam.

The willing candidates who aspire to qualify for the AFCAT exam must perform well in every particular stage of the selection process. After qualifying for the AFCAT online examination, the shortlisted candidates are called for the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Testing.

The applicants who are applying for the AFCAT Ground Duty (Technical Branch) must appear for both the AFCAT online examination as well as the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT). Whereas, the candidates from Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch have to appear only for the AFCAT exam.

AFCAT Vacancy 2022

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will release the AFCAT 2022 notification for the recruitment of Flying Branch and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical branch) on 1st June 2022. Vacancies that are declared by the authority are tentative and are subject to change without notice.

Candidates will be selected based on the merit list of the AFCAT exam, availability of training slots, various cadre control mechanisms, and an exact number of vacancies. AFCAT Apply Online 2022

The candidates looking for job opportunities in the Indian Air Force (IAF) can apply online through the official website of the AFCAT CASB. The candidates should note that the application can be submitted through the online mode only. The candidates are advised to check the complete details before applying online. Candidates should fill the application online mode from the official website. The candidates can apply between 1st to 30th June 2022.

Step 1: Proceed to AFCAT Official Website and proceed to the application link.

Step 2: Complete your name, email ID, phone number, etc. in order to complete registration. 

Step 3: Login in and fill in your desired selection entry, Personal, Educational, and other required details in the form carefully. 

Step 4: Upload the required documents according to the prescribed format i.e. Photo, Signature & Thumb Impression (size of each jpg/ jpeg file to be between 10 and 50 kb). The candidates can use the Testbook Resize Tool.

Step 5: Select your exam city and proceed to fee payment.

Step 6: Pay the requisite application fee.

Step 7: The completely filled application form can be saved for future reference.

AFCAT Application Fee 2022

Candidates applying for the AFCAT entry will have to pay an application fee while submitting the application form. Candidates applying for the NCC entry need not pay any application fee. The application fee should only be paid through an online mode. Payment through cash or demand draft (DD) will not be entertained. Candidates should keep the transaction details for future records.

AFCAT Selection Process 2022 

The selection process of AFCAT will be of various stages. The first stage will be a written examination. Candidates who qualify at this stage will be called up for the SSB exam. The SSB exam will further consist of tests like Picture Perception and Discussion test, Psychological test, etc. Finally, the candidates will be tested for medical fitness. Those candidates who have completed all the stages and fall under the final merit list will be considered eligible for the post. The selection process will be as follows.

  • Physical and Medical Test (Physical Standard Time )

AFCAT Eligibility 2022

The aspiring candidates before applying must ensure that they satisfy the eligibility criteria as required. Candidates need to meet all the required criteria as mentioned below. Read below to know more.

Nationality:

  • The Candidate must be a Citizen of India. 

Marital Status:

  • The candidates must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course.
  • Widows/Widowers are not eligible to apply.
  • A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of his application even after successfully clearing the SSB and medical will also not be eligible for training.

AFCAT Flying Branch & NCC Entry Eligibility 2022

Age Limit:(Flying Branch)

  • Minimum Age - 20 years.
  • Maximum Age - 24 years.
  • The candidates should be of this age as of 1st July 2023.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and

  • Graduation with a minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR
  • BE/B Tech degree (Four years course) from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR
  • Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent

AFCAT Ground Duty Eligibility 2022

Age Limit:

  • Minimum Age - 20 years.
  • Maximum Age - 26 years.
  • The candidates should be of this age as of 1st July 2023.

Note: Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course. Widows/Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)} Candidates with a minimum of 50% mark each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from recognized University OR cleared

    (aab) Bachelor of Business Administration (with specialization in
    Finance)/ Bachelor of Management Studies (with specialization in
    Finance)/ Bachelor of Business Studies (with specialization in Finance)
    (aac) Qualified CA/ CMA/ CS/ CFA.
    (aad) B.Sc. with specialization in Finance
  • Education: Passed 10+2 and Post-Graduation with 50% marks in any discipline including integrated courses offering PG (Single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry) and with 60% marks in Graduation in any disciple

AFCAT Physical Standard Test

The candidates applying for the AFCAT exam should be physically fit to perform the military duties properly. The candidates are further advised to keep themselves physically fit when they report for the SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview. Following are the activities that a candidate needs to perform during the AFCAT Physical Standard Test.

  • 01 mile (1.6 kms) run in 10 minutes
  • 10 push ups
  • 03 chin ups

The aspiring candidates are also advised to be in a good physical condition to adapt to physical training at the Air Force Academy (AFA) which consists of swimming, running, rope climbing, and other physical training.

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2022

The written examination for the AFCAT will consist of two different sections. The first section will consist of subjects like General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning which will be of 100 marks in total. Section 2 will consist of questions related to the graduation stream. The AFCAT Exam Pattern is as follows.

  • The subjects under the sections will be (Section I - Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning, and Section II - EKT).

  • The section I exam will be of a duration of 2 hours and section II will be of 45 minutes.
  • +3 marks will be rewarded for every correct answer.
  • There will be a negative marking of -1 for every wrong answer.

AFCAT Salary and Additional Allowances

AFCAT Selection Process

The Indian Air Force will invite the qualified candidates by sending call letters to all the candidates who clear the AFCAT exam to appear for the second stage of selection that includes AFSB Testing, also known as the Air Force Selection Board. The AFSB comprises two stages of testing as mentioned below.

Medical Examination

All those recommended candidates who have qualified for the AFSB will be called for the medical examination. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has notified only two centers for conducting the Medical Examination which are located at the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru, and Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME).

Once the medical examination is conducted successfully, a final merit list would be declared on the basis of the marks scored by the candidate in the AFCAT written exam, and AFSB Interview. All those candidates who have been shortlisted would be given the joining letter to join the prestigious Indian Air Force.

AFCAT Answer Key 2022

The answer key of the AFCAT written test will be published on the official website, 15 days after the completion of the exam. The answer key will consist of all the correct responses to the questions asked in the exam. Candidates must note that they can also raise objections against the answer key.
